From the Rector's Desk

Earlier this week, when I arrived home from running errands I noticed something poking out of the ground in my front yard.  I stopped to look and saw the earliest signs of spring emerging from the cold, wet earth as tiny crocuses dared to show their heads.  It always amazes me when this happens – where what was once barren ground new life breaks through.  However, in some ways this is a rather wonderful image for the seasons of the church – particularly as I’ve been working on liturgies for Lent.

As we all know, Lent is that time in our church year where we wander the desert with Jesus.  It is a time marked by prayer, fasting, giving in an attempt to deepen our relationship with the Holy, a time when we examine the barren places in our lives and make way for tiny shoots of hope and new life to spring forth.

With that in mind, this year we will be trying something new to help sustain us through this wilderness time.  Beginning on February 21st we will begin our 5-week study “Walking with Jesus through Lent”, where together we will reflect on the stories of Jesus' final days leading to the resurrection from the perspective of each of the four gospel writers, and explore some questions together.

So mark your calendars and come journey with me…. Wednesday Feb, 21, 28, March 6, 13, and 20 from 10:30 – 12:30 and let's walk through the wilderness together.

Love and Blessings,

Rev. Kirsten +
