And the rains began…….

I couldn’t believe my ears when I learned that rain is anticipated all through to next Monday. Get the ark ready!  By the sounds of it, I thought all the available rain fell last night as I listened to it pound the roof of our tiny house. How cozy it was to be sleeping dry just inches below.

Here at St. Mary’s we’re very cognizant of what we pay in our Diocesan assessment each year and for some, whether we’re getting value for our money.  What we don’t ask often enough is what kind of support St. Mary’s realizes from the collective contributions of all the parishes on these islands and inlets. So it’s interesting to bring to light the amazing support we’ve received from the Diocese over the past years. Please read the attached report.

Work has been going on in the Pet Memorial Garden. The statue of St. Francis has been secured so he won’t wander and the memorial feature is now ready for memorial plaques to be attached. Thanks to Fred for his work, creativity and dedication!

This is all in preparation for the annual Blessing of the Animals taking place on Sunday, October 4th.  We will dedicate the garden after church that day, and an hour later at 12:30 we will hold the Blessing of the Animals there. Mark your calendar! Invite your friends and neighbours!

If you want information about having your pets’ ashes laid to rest in the Pet Memorial Garden, please contact KAT and she will email you the details. Or, look for the Pet Memorial Garden brochure in church this Sunday.

As you may know KAT’s mom is in residential care and because of Covid she has had very limited contact with her family.  Her health has significantly failed.  KAT and her brother are considered visitors, not an integral part of the care team.   A group called Action for Reform of Residential Care (ARRCBC) has been formed to raise the issues affecting ALL residents in long-term care.  Our loved ones have been without the love, the care or the oversight of their families since March 17. The residents’ mental health has been neglected and this is unacceptable!

There is a rally in Victoria on Tuesday, September 29 at 1:30 at St. Anne’s Academy, with a march to the Legislature at 2pm.  KAT will be attending.  If you would like come, she would love the company…the more the merrier.   Please let her know before Monday Sept. 28.  Please share this information.  Here is the link to their website if you want more information on the plight of our seniors in care.  Click here.

Short on reading material? Trefor will have a selection of books from our library available on the ramp after church on Sunday to inspire, encourage and support you.

The Episcopal Election is this Saturday! By Sunday morning we will know who our new Bishop is. Please pray for wisdom for the Synod representatives as they vote in our new Diocesan shepherd.  You can watch the proceedings by going to the Diocesan website and finding the link HERE.
