FROM THE DESK OF THE RECTOR

I am looking forward to our re-opening on August 15th. Read on to learn about what we can and cannot do.  It will be so good to see each other in person.

Thank you ZOOM, but you’re just not the same!

It will be wonderful to see many of you. But if you don’t feel comfortable attending, I can come to you! Please just let me know if you’d like me to come and bring you communion at home.

Above all, stay cool and calm. This weather too shall pass.

God bless you all,
Selinde

Donations to the Church of St. Mary with St. Mark in Mayo, Yukon
We offered the roof shakes we had removed from the church to the public as kindling, asking for donations. Our goal was to raise $400 to send to a church in the north needing roof repairs and having much fewer resources than we do. We have raised under half the amount we had hoped to raise. So now we have a new proposal: If you would like a tax receipt for a donation to their roof project, send your donation directly to the church:  Church of St. Mary with St. Mark, PO Box 309, Mayo, Yukon  Y0B 1M0.  Winter comes early in the north (snow anticipated mid-September!) so please consider sending off your donation soon! Thank you.

Michael Cartlidge, who died in 2001, was a former member of St. Mary’s.  His wife – Gay Cartlidge – has died recently and generously left a bequest of $1,000 in her will to St. Mary’s.  Some of you will remember Michael, who was an active member of the parish, and who helped create the kneelers at the front of the church.

Re-opening of the church and worship at 10am on August 15th.  Bishop Anna sent the following in her August 3 Update on COVID Guidelines:

“Although masks are no longer mandatory indoors, due to ongoing COVID activity, it is strongly recommended that parishes continue to advice parishioners to wear masks when at indoor events as much as possible.”

Following our bishop’s guidance, let’s continue wearing masks in church for the time being and pray that, come Dr. Bonnie Henry’s announcement in early September, we will be released from all restrictions.

Speaking of restrictions, here’s some positive news.  We can gather!!  Let’s celebrate our Matronal Feast and the fact that we are able to gather and worship in community once again!  On August 15th, feel free to bring a chair and your own beverage of choice and gather in the Memorial Garden after the service. We trust people will participate as they feel comfortable. Hats may no longer be in fashion for church goers, but you will definitely want to bring one for the gathering after church if we continue to have the high temperatures we are experiencing now.

A note from your new Care Team Coordinator Pat N:
During the past year and a bit, the team has been calling everyone on the parish list either to make sure you are okay or to pass on information about St. Mary’s. Now that it looks like we will be able to meet face-to-face (6 feet apart), we would like to know whether or not you would like to keep receiving a call, but maybe not so often.  Please call me and leave a message if I am not home.  It has been a real pleasure to talk to you over the last year. May God bless you all.

The new and improved 2021 PARISH DIRECTORY will be available August 15th.  This year the cost is by donation.

We will need some help on Sundays before the service with SIDESPEOPLE starting Aug. 15th.  And we still have no volunteer to schedule/coordinate our Sunday Coffee Roster in the Fall - an easy job.  Contact Sue G for more Sidespeople information (another easy peasy) and Selinde if you can help with the Sunday Coffee Roster.
