From the Rector's Desk:
This week I read a quote that said, “Surround yourself with people who pray behind your back,” and I have ben thinking about these words ever since. So often in life we pray for one another when asked but talk about one another (even when in positive ways) without the other person knowing. But what if we changed that, what if we began to pray for one another without waiting to be asked or told, without making a fuss or drawing attention to our actions – but simply because we want good things for the people in our lives.

I think it is safe to say that most of us pray behind the scenes for our family and those closest to us, but we forget to pray for leaders of the world, those in our communities, those in our churches … we forget that they need prayer too. Throughout scripture we are reminded to pray at all times (Ephesians 6:18), pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), to not stop praying for one another (Colossians 1:9), to pray for our enemies (Matthew 5:44), and that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made for all people (1 Timothy 2:1). And these are only a few examples of the many ways scripture reminds us of the importance of praying for each other.

So I want to encourage you all to pray for one another – as a name pops into your mind, offer a prayer in the moment for that person. If you hear of a ministry in the church that needs support, pray for that ministry. For prayer is powerful and can change not only the life of those you pray for, but will change your life too. Praying for one another not only shows how we care and support one another, but also strengthens spiritual connections, reminds us to rely on God in all things, and encourages fellowship and community.

So let’s become the kind of community that prays behind each others back, the place that is held and lifted in prayer at all times – for with a simple act of prayer we can do great and wonderful things.

Peace,
Kirsten +
